Stop Taking Melatonin! What to Use Instead
Melatonin is in almost every sleep aisle, gummy bottle, and late-night ad you'll see. It is also, in my opinion, one of the most misunderstood supplements on the shelf. Here is what I mean, and what I use instead.
Why Melatonin Isn't the Fix You Think It Is
Melatonin gets treated like a light switch for sleep. Take it, flip it off, done. That is not actually how it works, and that gap between expectation and reality is where most people run into trouble.
It's a Hormone, Not a Sedative
Melatonin does not knock you out. It signals your body that it is nighttime. Take the wrong dose at the wrong time, and you can throw that signal off instead of supporting it.
More Isn't Better
Most gummies on shelves contain far more melatonin than your body naturally produces in a night, sometimes 5 to 10 times more. That is not a bigger dose of "sleepy." It is just more hormone than your body knows what to do with.
The Grogginess Is a Clue
Waking up foggy is not a coincidence. It is often a sign your body is still processing a hormone dose it did not actually need in that amount.
It Doesn't Touch the Real Problem
For most people, the reason they can't sleep is not a melatonin deficiency. It is a racing mind, tension, or stress that never got the memo the day is over. That problem needs a different solution.
What I Use Instead
So if not melatonin, then what? For me, it comes down to calming the nervous system, not forcing a hormone signal. That is the whole idea behind Power Down, and it does not contain melatonin.
L-Theanine (200mg)
Found naturally in green tea, L-Theanine supports a calm, clear-headed state without sedation. Think of it as the "quiet the noise" ingredient.
Valerian Root
Traditionally used to support relaxation and ease the transition into sleep, without acting on the same hormone pathway melatonin does.
Passionflower
Used to help calm a racing mind, which is often the actual reason people are still awake at midnight scrolling their phone.
Hops
Works alongside valerian to support a natural wind-down, the same way it has for centuries in traditional herbal use.
Magnesium Citrate
Supports muscle relaxation and healthy nervous system function, both part of what it actually takes to power down for the night.
This is the exact formula I use, and it does not contain melatonin.
Shop Power DownThe Real Fix
You do not need more hormone. You need a body that actually knows how to power down at the end of the day, and ingredients that support that instead of overriding it.
That is the difference between chasing sleep with a bigger dose and actually building a body that knows how to rest.
Want the full system? Energy in the morning, recovery after training, and a real wind-down at night, all in one place.
